DENVER – Jan. 26, 2026 – DEN recently opened Westwood Paletero Stories, an exhibition honoring the lives and labor of the paleteros who sell Mexican paletas de hielo – colorful frozen treats – in Denver’s Westwood neighborhood. The exhibition features seven vibrantly painted paletero carts inspired by the personal stories of local paleteros.
The vision for the exhibition is a collaboration between Denver-based artist Juls Mendoza, Re: Vision and History Colorado. Artists involved include: Anthony Garcia Sr., Danielle Seewalker, Thomas “Detour” Evans, Emanuel Martinez, Jolt, Aalycia Rodriguez, and Juls Mendoza. The project is intended to reflect the everyday life, struggles, and joys of paleteros – stories that echo not only in Westwood but in Lantinx neighborhoods across the country.
Westwood Paletero Stories is on view now through March 30, 2026 and is located in Ansbacher Hall, prior to the A-Bridge.
