DENVER – April 7, 2026 – DEN announced today the opening of A Cut Above: Colorado Artists Working in Wood, which presents diverse approaches to working in wood, from finely crafted furniture such as chairs, dressers and functional forms, to sculpture, wall-based works and wood-turned objects. The exhibition invites visitors to see familiar materials and forms in new ways and to reflect on wood not only as a resource, but as a source of creativity and meaning.
Colorado has a long and active tradition of woodworking, supported by its forests, landscapes and strong maker communities. A Cut Above: Colorado Artists Working in Wood reflects this legacy through the work of contemporary artists living and working across the state. The exhibition includes a wide range of practices that demonstrate how wood continues to inspire innovation, experimentation and artistic exploration.
The artists featured approach wood as a material shaped by time, environment and growth and bring varied perspectives to the exhibition, drawing from traditions of craft, design and fine art. Participating artists include Kailee Bosch, Trent Bosch, Chris Deknikker, Brian Hubel, Kevin Anderson, Laurent Niclot, Sean O’Meallie, Nikki Pike, Chris Purnell, Jon Weekley (Medicine Wolf Log Furniture), and Cindy Drozda as well as Front Range Woodturners – Ladies of the Lathe (Debra Highly, Marcee Morris, Robyn Herman, Brenda Blaesing) and the Red Rocks School of Woodworking (Laura Kishimoto, Jeremy A. Cox, Eric Cravens, Sean Gillespie, Mark Duvall).
A Cut Above: Colorado Artists Working in Wood is on view now through August 29, 2026, and is located on the A Bridge and in Ansbacher Hall. Additional images of the exhibition can be found here.
