The Bridge to Concourse A: Walk it, Don’t Train it

The Fastest Way to Access A Gates

One of Denver International Airport (DEN)’s best kept local secrets is likely the fastest way to access Concourse A. And no, we’re not talking about the mysteries in our tunnels, we’re talking about the A-Bridge that begins after our security checkpoints. The post-security 1,100-ft walkway spans above our taxiway and is a great alternative to taking the train for passengers departing from all A gates.

An Unexpected Experience and How Long the Walk Takes

For those who choose the bridge, it offers much more than a path to their gate. The A-Bridge is part art gallery, part music venue and part plane spotting vantage point.  Instead of taking the underground train, travelers who cross the bridge find themselves suspended above an active taxiway where aircraft move beneath them. The experience is unlike anything most airport visitors have encountered and offers a perspective on aviation that is difficult to find elsewhere. As a bonus, the large glass walls provide expansive views of the airfield, front range and Colorado’s famous blue skies. From security, the average time it takes to walk to Concourse A is between 5 and 15 minutes depending on which gate is your destination.

Yet, the bridge’s greatest surprise may be its role as a cultural destination. The walkway hosts rotating exhibitions through DEN’s renowned public art program, transforming what could be an ordinary airport corridor into a gallery experience. Along the route, travelers can discover displays featuring Colorado artists, regional history, photography, music, cultural celebrations and community storytelling. Exhibits change throughout the year, ensuring that even frequent flyers can encounter something new on every visit. Learn more about the art on the bridge here.

When the Train Still Makes Sense

While the bridge is one of our favorite ways to get to the A Concourse because of the views, moving walkways and elevator access; we still recommend taking the train for passengers who may have heavy bags, are continuing to gates on concourses B and C or have reduced mobility.

Arriving at Concourse A: Getting Back to Baggage Claim

Arriving passengers can also experience this insider tip! Simply follow the signs for baggage claim by taking the escalators or elevators up to the mezzanine level of the A Concourse and walk across the bridge. Once passengers have arrived in the Jeppesen Terminal they can take the elevator to Level 5 for baggage claim and ground transportation.
