Winter Weather Advisory for March 23, 2013

Home

DENVER, CO — March 23, 2013 — Denver is experiencing a snow storm today, which is expected to last through the evening. The following is a summary of the currently available information for travelers.

The FAA is reporting that some flights in and out of Denver are being delayed an average of 2.5 hours due to the weather today. In addition:

  • We expect heavy snow and possibly fog later this morning, which could lead to additional delays. It’s important that passengers check their flight status at flydenver.com or with their airline. We are also asking passengers to give themselves lots of extra time to reach the airport, as surrounding roads are icy and traffic speeds in the area have slowed considerably.
  • The airlines are reporting a handful of cancellations for today.
  • The airlines are currently in full deicing operations, which means that passengers should expect to spend a little bit longer on the plane before departing (15-30 minutes).
  • DIA has more than 250 pieces of snow removal equipment and 500 trained snow removal personnel.
  • RTD is running a full schedule to DIA, with delays up to 30 minutes.

Travel Tips for Passengers

Check your flight status before heading out to the airport with their airline or on www.flydenver.com.

Drive with caution and allow extra time when heading to the airport.

A good rule of thumb is to be inside the airport two hours prior to flight departure time. This should allow for plenty of time to navigate flight check-in, security lines and travel to the gate.

DIA recommends passengers download the free FlySmart travel app for the Blackberry, iPhone and Android. FlySmart Airport is the only travel app that features content downloaded directly from www.flydenver.com.
