Twice-weekly flights to Calgary, Alberta resume on Sunday

DENVER – May 20, 2022 – On Sunday Denver International Airport (DEN) will celebrate the return of WestJet, an award-winning Canadian airline. Beginning May 22, WestJet will once again connect Denver with Calgary (YYC), providing nonstop service two days per week, on Sundays and Thursdays.

“We are excited to welcome WestJet back to Denver, offering travelers from across their network increased access to the Mile High City,” said DEN CEO Phil Washington. “Calgary and Denver share many similarities, as gateways to outdoor recreation rooted in western culture, and this renewed connection will support future collaboration.”

WestJet has won numerous accolades in recent years for its service record. The airline was voted “Travelers’ Choice” by passengers through TripAdvisor three straight years from 2017 to 2019. Most recently for 2022, APEX also recognized WestJet as a “Four-Star Low-Cost Carrier” thanks to strong support from travelers.

“The restart of our service between Denver and Calgary marks another milestone in recovery as we rebuild our network and strengthen critical connections between our two great cities,” said WestJet Chief Commercial Officer John Weatherill. “These connections are critical to the recovery of international travel and tourism, and we look forward to stimulating business and leisure travel between both destinations as we work towards restoring our network to pre-pandemic levels this summer.”

WestJet first inaugurated service between DEN and YYC in March 2018. Flights last operated on March 24, 2020 and had remained suspended due to travel restrictions associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2019 Calgary ranked among Denver’s top markets in Canada in terms of demand for travel, accounting for close to 100,000 annual passengers.

“Our mission at the Canadian Consulate General is to build connections between Canada and Colorado,” said Consul General of Canada to the U.S. Mountain West Region Sylvain Fabi. “Usually, those connections are a little more metaphorical, but in this case it’s quite literal! We are extremely excited to welcome WestJet back to Denver International Airport, adding to the connections between these two amazing cities and expanding the ties of friendship and opportunity between us.”

Through the carrier’s hub in Calgary, WestJet also provides DEN travelers access to more than 20 destinations across Canada. Flights will be operated aboard Boeing 737 aircraft.
