Two construction projects will impact traffic to and from Denver International Airport (DEN) this week.

Inbound Peña Blvd. lanes (heading to DEN) between Tower Rd. & the RTD bridge will be restored to their pre-existing, permanent alignment. A right inbound lane closure will be in effect from approximately 8 p.m. on May 28 to 4 a.m. on May 29. Additionally, crews will replace a damaged overhead electronic message board sign on May 28 and 29 on outbound Peña Blvd. (leaving DEN). Work is expected to start around 10 p.m. on May 28 and finish around 4 a.m. on May 29, and again around 10 p.m. on May 29 to 4 a.m. on May 30. At approximately 1 a.m., between Tower Road and E 56th Avenue, a slow rolling closure of Peña Boulevard traffic will be implemented for less than 10 minutes. Speeds will be significantly reduced. Crews will be transporting and setting bridge girders on E-470 over outbound Peña Blvd. (leaving DEN) between 11 p.m. on May 30 until 6 a.m. on May 31. Between Jackson Gap Street and E-470, approximately once every hour, slow, rolling closures of Peña will be implemented for approximately seven minutes. Volaris to Add International Service to Guadalajara and Chihuahua from Denver

Home

DENVER, CO — March 24, 2014 — Denver International Airport (DEN) is pleased to announce Volaris will begin nonstop service to Guadalajara (GDL) and Chihuahua (CUU) beginning in July. These two nonstop international destinations are new markets for DEN, and Denver is the first U.S. destination from CUU for Volaris.

DEN’s international nonstop destinations have increased by more than 30 percent since 2011 to a total of 25 destinations with recent service additions on various airlines to Reykjavik, Iceland (KEF); Fort McMurray in Alberta, Canada (YMM); Tokyo, Japan (NRT); Punta Cana, Dominican Republic (PUJ), and Montego Bay, Jamaica (MBJ).

“Each new destination served by nonstop flights increases Denver’s presence on the global stage and provides opportunities for economic expansion,” said Denver Mayor Michael Hancock, who took office in 2011. “The commitment by Volaris to invest more service into the Denver market is an indication of our strong market fundamentals and growth potential.”

Volaris began nonstop service from DEN to Benito Juárez International Airport in Mexico City in December 2012. Since service began, passenger traffic between Mexico City and Denver has increased nearly every month.

“Volaris has been an active and engaged partner since service initiation to Mexico City in 2012,” said Kim Day, Denver’s manager of aviation. “Denver has strong links with both Guadalajara and Chihuahua, and we look forward to supporting the Volaris expansion into these unserved destinations.”

The flights are now on sale for travel beginning in July. Volaris will operate the Guadalajara flight once a week on Mondays beginning July 7. The aircraft will arrive in Denver at 12:50 p.m. and depart to Gaudalajara at 2:15 p.m. Volaris will operate the Chihuahua flight once a week on Saturdays beginning July 12. The aircraft will arrive in Denver at 11:20 a.m. and depart to Chihuahua at 12:45 p.m. Please visit www.volaris.com for additional information.

Volaris CEO, Enrique Beltranena, spoke of the advantages of the carrier’s new point-to-point routes, “Our goal is to provide greater and better options for the Mexican community currently residing in Colorado who are interested in visiting their relatives in Mexico. We aim to do this safely and efficiently, without them ever having to resort to 26-hour bus shuttles. With our greatly competitive fares, we want more people to travel with us, on board one of the youngest fleet in the Americas.”

According to the US Census Bureau, 32 percent of Denver residents are Hispanic or of a Latin American descent. The city is marked by a strong presence of the Mexican community from the states of Chihuahua, Durango, Zacatecas and Jalisco. According to the Mexican Consulate in Denver, these numbers continue to rise year after year because of strong activity in Denver, Colorado’s state capital.
