Monterrey has never before been served nonstop from Denver

DENVER – Dec. 1, 2016 – Today, Volaris and Denver International Airport (DEN) celebrated the inaugural nonstop flight between Denver and Monterrey, Mexico. This the first time that Monterrey has been served nonstop from Denver. To celebrate, airport CEO Kim Day joined with representatives from Volaris and the Denver-based Consulate General of Mexico.

“We’re thrilled that Volaris is further extending our city’s global reach with new, nonstop flights from Denver to Monterrey,” said Denver Mayor Michael B. Hancock. “This important step toward further elevating Denver’s global competitiveness and connectivity shows their commitment to our market, and we look forward to encouraging our residents to explore this new destination while showcasing our welcoming spirit to new visitors.”

Monterrey is the third-largest city in Mexico with nearly 4.4 million residents, and is the industrial and economic powerhouse of northern Mexico. Nearly 14,000 passengers traveled between Denver and Monterrey in the year ending September 2016. This represents market growth of nearly 50 percent over the previous year, far outpacing the average U.S.-Monterrey growth of just 2 percent over this same period. This new flight is expected to result in continued growth due to market stimulation that historically occurs when new nonstop service is added.

“The addition of a new destination to Denver’s growing portfolio of nonstop service is very exciting,” said airport CEO Kim Day. “Volaris has contributed significantly to the growth in international passenger traffic at Denver since starting service in 2012. They are now the only airline to serve the three largest cities in Mexico – Mexico City, Guadalajara and Monterrey – nonstop from Denver.”

Volaris flights to Monterrey are scheduled to operate year-round with frequency adjusted seasonally based on demand. The flights will operate using an Airbus A320 with 179 seats and are scheduled to depart Monterrey at 10:07 a.m., arriving in DEN at 12:15 p.m. – flights will depart DEN at 1:30 p.m., arriving in Monterrey at 5:25 p.m. (local times).

“This new flight between Monterrey and Denver is solid proof that Volaris keeps expanding its horizons,” said Miguel Aguiñiga, Volaris’ senior sales manager. “We are extremely proud of being an airline committed to offering a wide variety of options to fly. You can be certain that we will continue working tirelessly to maintain and increase our presence in the countries where we operate.”

Mexico ranks as Denver’s largest international market, by country, in terms of passenger demand. The addition of service to Monterrey further expands Denver’s nonstop connectivity beyond well-known leisure destinations to cities that generate a diversity of demand, including business and visiting friends and relatives.

“This new route between Denver and Monterrey reflects the continued strength of the deep bilateral relationship between Colorado and Mexico,” said Elie Smilovitz, consul for political and economic affairs at the Consulate General of Mexico in Denver.
