TRAFFIC ADVISORY: Tower Road Off Ramp Along Eastbound Peña Boulevard to Close for 48 Hours

Reconstruction of Peña Boulevard Between Tower Road and E-470 Nearly Complete

DENVER — Nov. 20, 2014 — Crews at Denver International Airport (DIA) will shut down the inbound Peña Boulevard off ramp to Tower Road for 48 hours this weekend as a newly constructed section of Peña Boulevard is completed and traffic is switched back to its original alignment.

There will be alternating lane closures along inbound Peña Boulevard from 10 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Saturday. The inbound (eastbound) ramp at Tower Road will be closed from 5 a.m. Saturday through 5 a.m. Monday. Travelers needing to access Tower Road from inbound Peña should use 56th Avenue during this time.

The speed limit on Peña Boulevard is currently reduced to 45 miles per hour throughout the construction zone. Motorists are strongly encouraged to follow the posted speed limits and allow extra time to travel through the construction zone.

The ramp closure this weekend is necessary as crews remove dirt and asphalt from the existing detour. Upon completion of this weekend’s work, traffic will be back to normal on both eastbound and westbound Peña Boulevard. The $9.6 million reconstruction project between Second Creek (just west of Tower Road) and E-470 began in May 2014 and replaced deteriorating pavement. All major roadway work will be completed by Monday morning, weather permitting, in time for the Thanksgiving weekend.

DIA would like to thank motorists for their patience throughout the project.
