Technology Introduced at DEN to Track Water Bottle Filling Station Filters

Important milestone in effort to shift to predictive maintenance of airport assets

DENVER – June 28, 2024 – Denver International Airport (DEN) announced today that 60 of DEN’s 100 water bottle filling stations across the airport now incorporate cloud-based technology designed to provide DEN’s maintenance team a more accurate filter status reading. The updated stations also now feature a QR code that passengers can scan to get real-time data on the filter status.

“From top to bottom, DEN continues to prioritize maintaining the durability, reliability, and predictability of our infrastructure. In fact, it’s a pillar of our Vision 100 plan,” DEN CEO Phil Washington said. “Moving our water bottle filling stations to a predictive maintenance model will help ensure our resources are deployed efficiently and effectively and that these highly trafficked assets perform optimally.”

The predictive replacement approach utilizes advanced technology, developed by RTI Aquantix, to monitor real-time filter performance and water usage. This system analyzes data based on specific metrics such as water flow rate, usage patterns, and filter condition to predict when a filter is nearing the end of its useful life, allowing for timely replacements before performance declines.

Additional water bottle filling stations will be converted to feature this technology over the next year. The water bottle filling stations have been a fixture at DEN since 2006.
