DENVER – Aug. 17, 2016 – Special Olympics Colorado set a new fundraising record during the fourth “Plane Pull” event at Denver International Airport, tallying more than $110,000 in total donations.

The Plane Pull, which was held Saturday morning, helps Special Olympics Colorado provide year-round training, competitions and leadership programs for more than 20,700 athletes with intellectual disabilities in Colorado.

“The 2016 Plane Pull presented by Subway raised over $110,000 to benefit Special Olympics Colorado’s 20,761 athletes with intellectual disabilities,” said Mindy Watrous, president and CEO of Special Olympics Colorado. “. “We had an incredible year with more than 55 teams competing against each other to pull a 164,000 pound plane the fastest.”

Teams were required to raise a minimum of $1,250 to participate, and an estimated 2,500 individuals attended this year’s event. Prizes were given to teams for the fastest team time (Weld County Sheriff’s Office at 6.08 seconds), top team fundraiser (Hyatt Regency Denver $4,400), top individual fundraiser (Amanda Wilson with the Parker Police Department $2,225) and others.
