Two construction projects will impact traffic to and from Denver International Airport (DEN) this week.

Inbound Peña Blvd. lanes (heading to DEN) between Tower Rd. & the RTD bridge will be restored to their pre-existing, permanent alignment. A right inbound lane closure will be in effect from approximately 8 p.m. on May 28 to 4 a.m. on May 29. Additionally, crews will replace a damaged overhead electronic message board sign on May 28 and 29 on outbound Peña Blvd. (leaving DEN). Work is expected to start around 10 p.m. on May 28 and finish around 4 a.m. on May 29, and again around 10 p.m. on May 29 to 4 a.m. on May 30. At approximately 1 a.m., between Tower Road and E 56th Avenue, a slow rolling closure of Peña Boulevard traffic will be implemented for less than 10 minutes. Speeds will be significantly reduced. Crews will be transporting and setting bridge girders on E-470 over outbound Peña Blvd. (leaving DEN) between 11 p.m. on May 30 until 6 a.m. on May 31. Between Jackson Gap Street and E-470, approximately once every hour, slow, rolling closures of Peña will be implemented for approximately seven minutes. Speeds will be significantly reduced during this time.

Pop-Up Park opens at Denver International Airport

DENVER – July 5, 2018 – As part of its “Events at DEN” series, Denver International Airport (DEN) is transforming its open-air plaza into a Pop-Up Park, featuring native Colorado trees and plants and 9,000 square feet of turf. The Pop-Up Park brings many features enjoyed in other Denver parks including lawn games, lunchtime fitness classes and lounge seating.

A defining element of the Pop-Up Park is the potted gardens curated by students in the Colorado State University Landscape Design and Contracting Program. Students selected trees and plants native to Colorado’s Plains ecosystem, including displays of low-water consuming plants, giving passengers the opportunity to experience local flora without leaving the airport.

Throughout the summer, DEN will host fun passenger experiences in the park, including:

  • Patriotic music – July 6, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
  • Colorado musician Eric Lane – August 1, 12 p.m. – 2 p.m.
  • Dog agility course – August 31, 10 a.m. – 7 p.m.

Complete event information is available at

The Pop-Up Park is open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily through September 3, weather permitting, on DEN’s 82,000square-foot plaza, located at the south end of Jeppesen Terminal connecting the terminal to the Westin Denver International Airport and Transit Center. Passengers visiting DEN and community members alike are encouraged to stop by and enjoy free park activities. Share your photos of Pop-Up park using the hashtag #DENEvents.

The plaza is located pre-security, is open to the public and is accessible just steps from the University of Colorado A Line station at DEN, or a short walk from the airport parking garages ($4/hour in garage parking, $5/short term parking).
