DENVER – September 8, 2014 – Colorado on Tap: The State of Brew Culture is a new temporary art exhibit opening at Denver International Airport (DIA) on Sept. 20, 2014. The exhibit will be on display through December 2014 in Ansbacher Hall, which is the pre-security walkway to the A Gates on level 6, north of Jeppesen Terminal. Media is invited to obtain photos and video during installation September 17-18.
The timing of the exhibition coincides with Oktoberfest and the Great American Beer Festival at the Colorado Convention Center, which draws thousands of visitors through DIA. The exhibit features an assortment of educational information and interesting artifacts from various participating Colorado craft breweries. Display cases will showcase a variety of craft brewery related items including growlers, pub glasses, specialty glassware, coasters, tap handles, t-shirts, bottles, cans and custom art created for beer labels. Visitors can learn about canning systems, ingredients and the brewing process.
“The goal of this exhibit is to provide passengers an opportunity to better understand the craft beer industry and its contributions to the Colorado creative economy,” said Chris Stevens, DIA Art & Culture Program Manager.
The exhibition is a collaboration between DIA, Colorado Creative Industries, Colorado Brewers Guild and more than 250 craft breweries located around the state.
Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper is quoted as a part of the display, “Colorado has become such a mecca for quality beer. The economic impact of Colorado’s craft brewing industry has nearly doubled in just the past two years, rising to $826 million in 2013. Explosive growth continues to have a huge economic effect on the state and the many breweries located in Colorado’s Creative Districts play a vital role in economic vitality and placemaking.”

About DIA’s Art and Culture Program
DIA’s Art and Culture Program administers the City and County of Denver’s “one percent for art” ordinance which enhances public places and features nearly 30 site-specific works including sculptures, murals and other installations. The pieces are displayed in outdoor landscapes, inside Jeppesen Terminal and on airport concourses, as well as in the train tunnels and on the train itself. In addition to its permanent art collection, DIA curates temporary exhibitions, collaborating with museums, cultural institutions and arts organizations to present the highest quality two- and three-dimensional work. DIA was named “Best U.S. Airport for Art” in USA Today’s “10Best Reader’s Choice” travel contest in 2013. The category focuses on how airports have been transforming from utilitarian hubs of transport to spaces with beautiful works of art, great restaurants, comfy lounges and terrific shopping. DIA was selected by readers as the favorite among 20 airports nominated by the publication.
Denver International Airport is one of the busiest airports in the world. DEN is the primary economic engine for the state of Colorado, generating more than $36 billion for the region annually.
