Nonstop Flight to Frankfurt Provides Access to 115 European Destinations

DENVER – MAR. 25, 2016 – Today, Denver International Airport (DEN) and Lufthansa German Airlines celebrate 15 years of a tremendous partnership that has opened up travel to Europe, Denver’s largest international market by region.

Since inaugurating service at DEN on Mar. 25, 2001, Lufthansa has provided over 11,500 nonstop flights to Frankfurt, Germany. Today, Frankfurt ranks as Denver’s third-largest market in Europe, behind only London and Paris, with more than 120 people traveling between the two cities every day. In addition, through the Frankfurt hub served by Lufthansa and its Star Alliance partners, passengers can access 115 European destinations and over 170 destinations worldwide.

“For the past 15 years, Lufthansa has served as one of our key gateways to Europe, providing nonstop service to Frankfurt and beyond for more than 3.2 million passengers,” said airport CEO Kim Day. “We’re proud Lufthansa is a part of the DEN team and look forward to the return of their nonstop flight to Munich in May. With the stable foundation of the past, we anticipate an even brighter future together.”

Lufthansa’s future at DEN begins with the expansion of service to Munich, Germany beginning May 11. This new flight will increase capacity between Denver and Europe by nearly 20 percent, and will provide nonstop access to one of the most popular cities in Europe. In addition, Lufthansa’s hub at Munich Airport is one of the fastest and most convenient connecting gateways in the world, requiring just 30 minutes between flights.

“Lufthansa’s commitment to the Denver market remains strong. Aside from our successful Denver – Frankfurt route, in May we will re-launch Denver – Munich. We expect this new direct connection to draw huge interest and demand. Not only is Munich an amazing city to visit, but Lufthansa also offers, from Munich, superb connecting flights throughout Europe and beyond,” said Matthew Strong, Lufthansa Group Regional Sales Manager, South Central USA.

To celebrate Lufthansa’s achievements over the last 15 years as well as the airlines commitment to the future, Denver Mayor Michael B. Hancock issued a proclamation declaring today, “Lufthansa Day.”
