DENVER – Oct. 7, 2021 – Starting at 11 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 9 and continuing until 4 a.m. Sunday, Denver International Airport (DEN) will close both the Jackson Gap Street off-ramp from outbound Peña Boulevard as well as the Return-to-Terminal loop for overhead sign installation. The work is part of the Peña Boulevard Improvement project that has added capacity and safety measures between Jackson Gap Street and Jeppesen Terminal.
During the closure, a detour will be in place requiring motorists to exit at Final Approach (the cell phone waiting lot) and follow the detour signs to 78th St., turning right onto 78th St. and right onto Jackson Gap Street where there is access to inbound Peña Boulevard to return to the terminal (see map below).
Overall, the project added two dedicated travel lanes from the Jackson Gap Street on-ramp. These acceleration/deceleration lanes help improve safety and traffic flow by eliminating weaving patterns due to merging traffic. Additionally, the project built a new free-flowing return-to-terminal loop at Jackson Gap Street, which will improve traffic flow and simplify the route for traffic returning to the terminal.
This phase of the project is nearly complete with additional work as part of the next phase starting later this year. The improvements on Peña Boulevard are part of DEN’s Vision 100 Plan, which is focused on preparing the airport to effectively serve 100 million annual passengers in approximately 10 years.
