DENVER – July 5, 2019 – Today, Denver International Airport (DEN) and Frontier Airlines celebrate the airline’s 25th anniversary.
Frontier began operating at Stapleton International Airport on July 5, 1994, with service to four destinations in North Dakota. The airline has since expanded operations at DEN to include nonstop service to 100 cities in 43 U.S. states, the District of Columbia, Mexico and Canada.
“For the past 25 years, Frontier’s service in Denver has opened up never-before served cities and states, providing our residents the opportunity to see new places while also allowing travelers in these destinations easy access to visit and do business in Denver. We couldn’t be prouder that a Denver-based company has had such success here,” Mayor Michael B. Hancock said.
Denver remains the airline’s largest station in its growing network. As continued growth is anticipated, the airline recently signed a 10-year lease renewal of its 155,000 square foot hangar at DEN.
“We’re excited to celebrate 25 years of air service in our home state of Colorado,” said Barry Biffle President and CEO of Frontier Airlines. “This accomplishment is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the Frontier Airlines team and tremendous support of the community. We could not be more appreciative of our airport partners and local leaders for their commitment to affordable air travel and world-class operating facilities. Frontier has undergone an exceptional transformation in the last 25 years and we’re proud to have reduced the cost of flying for Denver residents and visitors to our great state, while maintaining our renowned high level of service and Rocky Mountain hospitality.”
Since Frontier service began in 1994, the airline has flown more than 165 million passengers and 1.6 million flights through Denver.
“For 25 years, Frontier has been a great airport partner. Their presence means more affordable travel options for Denver’s growing population,” said DEN CEO Kim Day. “We are grateful for Frontier’s commitment to DEN and look forward to many more successful years.”
