Denver International Airport Train to the Gates Maintenance Begins

Home

DENVER – June 5, 2020 –Denver International Airport (DEN) remains open during the COVID-19 outbreak for essential travel needs. During this time, passenger traffic volumes are low, and the airport is continuing with necessary maintenance work.

Maintenance work on the train to the gates and terminal at DEN will begin next week on Concourse B. During the project, train station doors on each concourse will be upgraded. Train service will not be impacted during the project, however, two loading positions on Concourse B will not be accessible.

The maintenance project will install 80 new, modern platform door sets and replace door controls and mechanical platform door components on each concourse and at the terminal. These upgrades are necessary to keep platform doors in good working condition and prevent train delays due to door malfunctions. Over the course of 18 months, all 80 train doors across the system will be replaced. Work has already been completed on the west terminal departure station.

Generally, each of the train cars have two loading positions on each train platform. During construction, two train cars on each platform will only have one loading position. Passengers needing additional time to board and exit train cars, such as those using wheelchairs or pushing strollers, should choose cars with two available loading positions. Signage on the platform will clearly identify which boarding positions are impacted.

Due to low passenger traffic volumes, this work should not impact the ability for passengers to allow plenty of space between themselves and other passengers on the train platform or train cars.

Work will take place overnight, however doors under construction will be inoperable even when work is not in progress. The project is part of DEN’s bond-funded, five-year Capital Improvement Plan which makes necessary improvements to 25-year old facilities.
