Denver International Airport To Complete Second Phase of Bridge Work on Peña Boulevard

Home

DENVER – April 14, 2016 – Beginning Monday, April 18, crews will reduce the lane width and realign sections of inbound and outbound Peña Boulevard between approximately Tower Road and Jackson Gap Street as part of a project to rehabilitate a total of 10 bridge structures along the roadway.

The project will repair damaged and deterioration concrete on the bridges, which are now more than 20 years old, and will include the removal and replacement of concrete bridge curbs and bridge railings at the following locations along Peña Boulevard (two bridge structures per location):

  • West Fork of Second Creek
  • Tower Road
  • Picadilly Road (underneath RTD bridge)
  • Gun Club Road
  • Jackson Gap Street

Crews will work on one side of the bridges at a time, realigning traffic as the work progresses. Concrete barriers will be in place between the construction zone and traffic lanes for safety.

The traffic realignment will begin at 10 p.m. Monday night. Crews will continue work each night between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m. to complete realignment at all structures along inbound/eastbound and outbound/westbound Peña Boulevard, with all realignments completed by 4 a.m. Friday, April 29. Minor traffic impacts are expected as the lanes are moved. All existing lanes of traffic in each direction will be maintained during the day, with some single and double-lane closures overnight.

The speed limit on Peña Boulevard will be reduced to 55 mph throughout the construction zone for the duration of the $3 million project, which is expected to last through the end of October. Motorists are strongly encouraged to follow the posted speed limits, and allow extra time for travel through the construction zone.
