Update from DEN: Monday morning passengers at DEN experienced significant lines across all security screening checkpoints resulting in lengthy wait times to get through security.
We’ve been in contact with local and national TSA leadership to understand what resources and staffing they had in place this morning, how the lanes were being operated, what advance planning took place, traffic projections, equipment issues and more. At the same time, we are reviewing our own operation regarding how we manage the lines outside the checkpoint. TSA and DEN continue to work together in partnership to address the challenges we are having so that we can best accommodate the numbers of passengers traveling through DEN, particularly at peak times. We are encouraged by the performance of the equipment in the new West Security Checkpoint and the vast majority of times, wait times are below 10 minutes. However, we know there was a problem during peak time on the morning of Feb. 26 and we are going to do everything we can possibly do, working with TSA and our airlines, to fix this situation. Our passengers deserve an amazing, efficient and positive travel experience and we are committed to providing just that.Follow DEN on Twitter Follow DEN on Instagram

DENVER – June 15, 2023 – Denver International Airport (DEN) has been recognized by the Colorado Division of Aeronautics as the 2023 Colorado Airport of the Year. The award was presented to DEN CEO Phil Washington by David Ulane, Director of Aeronautics Division at the Colorado Department of Transportation, and Ken Maenpa, Chair of the Colorado Aeronautical Board, at the American Association of Airport Executives’ 95th Annual Conference and Exposition in Denver earlier this month.
“We are honored to be recognized as the 2023 Colorado Airport of the Year,” said DEN CEO Phil Washington. “This award acknowledges the hard work and dedication of more than 37,000 airport employees and our partners. Even as we accept this honor, we acknowledge we still have a lot of work to do and pledge to continue working to improve security wait times, institutionalizing equity in all of DEN’s initiatives and providing the customer experience and service our travelers expect.”
“For decades, DEN has been a stalwart supporter of our Division of Aeronautics and Colorado’s entire statewide aviation system. Their collaboration with us on a number of impactful statewide initiatives has made all of our airports safer, more efficient and more accessible, and we are proud to recognize them as our 2023 Airport of the Year”, said David Ulane.
The Colorado Airport of the Year Award is presented annually by the Colorado Division of Aeronautics to recognize Colorado public-use airports that exhibit outstanding contributions to the Colorado Aviation System. Airports distinguished with this recognition demonstrate values that fall in line with the CDOT Division of Aeronautics mission to advance a safe, efficient, and an effective statewide aviation system through collaboration, investment, and advocacy.
The Colorado Airport System consists of 76 public-use airports that support over 345,000 jobs, provide $16.2 billion in annual payroll, and $48.6 billion in total business revenue for the State of Colorado. More information can be found at Colorado-Aeronautics.org.
