DENVER – May 20, 2021 – Denver International Airport (DEN) is prepared to welcome more passengers back for a busy summer season. With passenger traffic increasing, DEN will reopen the East Economy parking lot at 12:01 a.m. on May 22. The lot was closed in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Rates in both the East and West Economy Lots remain the same at $17 per day, $5 per hour. Daily rates drop to $15 after the third day. With the opening of the East Economy Lot, the only lots that remain closed are Pikes Peak and Mt Elbert and Valet Parking. There are many comparable off-airport parking lots that offer shuttle service to DEN.
New Parking System Launch
DEN has been upgrading its public parking system over the last eight months which improves the entry and exit process. The new parking system has been in place in the West Economy Lot and West Garage since November 2020 and will become active in the East Economy Lot on May 22 and the East Garage on May 25.
To allow DEN to switch over to the new system, beginning at 12:01 a.m. on May 22, the East Garage will close to incoming vehicles until May 25. Cars parked in the East Garage will still be able to exit throughout that timeframe. Due to the implementation of the new system, customers who parked in the East Garage prior to 12:01 a.m. on May 22, should proceed to a “cashier” payment lane when exiting.
During the East Garage closure, customers will be directed to park in the West Garage instead. The West Economy and West Short Term Parking will also be available. By 7 a.m. on May 25, the East Garage will reopen along with Short Term Parking within the East Garage.
With the new parking system, contactless payment methods such as tap to pay, Apple Pay and Google Pay will be available immediately in the East Garage and East Economy and are already available in the West Garage and West Economy. In future phases of the project, the new system will allow DEN to implement an Express Park program along with an enhanced reservation process to improve the parking experience at DEN.
