Strong Growth in International Traffic Continues

DENVER – Nov. 2 , 2017 – The September passenger traffic results for Denver International Airport (DEN) are in and with only three months left, the airport is on pace for another record-setting year. Currently, the airport is up 6.2% in passenger traffic for the year-to-date period, despite seeing a very slight decrease in September passenger traffic numbers.

In September, 5,097,144 passengers flew through DEN, which is about 15,000 fewer passengers than September 2016. This is only a 0.3 percent decrease from the 5,112,271 passengers in September 2016.

However, September was a standout month for international passenger traffic with an increase of nearly 10 percent as compared to September 2016. For the year-to-date period, DEN’s passenger traffic is up by more than 11 percent, nearly double the pace of the airport’s overall passenger traffic growth.

“Denver International Airport continues to experience robust international passenger traffic growth, fueled by strong demand and carrier capacity increases,” airport CEO Kim Day said. “These numbers were bolstered in part in September by the inauguration of our new flight on Norwegian to London’s Gatwick Airport.”

Mail, freight and express cargo operations increased 7.0 percent in September, with 50,713,297 pounds, compared to 47,405,681 pounds of cargo in September 2016.
