Denver International Airport Celebrates the Fifth Anniversary of Aeromexico’s Service Between Denver and Mexico City

Home

DENVER – Feb. 6, 2014 – Denver International Airport (DIA) celebrated Aeromexico’s fifth anniversary of service between Denver and Mexico City with a gate event today. Passengers enjoyed refreshments before the nonstop flight departed from Denver to Mexico City. Manager of Aviation Kim Day and Consul General Carlos Bello presented a plaque to Aeromexico Regional Sales Director of the U.S. West Coast, Giancarlo Mulinelli, in appreciation for Aeromexico’s dedication to the Denver market. Aeromexico’s seasonal nonstop flight operates from December to April using a Boeing 737 aircraft that carries up to 124 passengers.

Aeromexico began operating at DIA on Feb. 1, 2009, and over the last five years, more than 75,000 passengers have travelled between Denver and Mexico City with the airline. Many of these passengers are tourists from Mexico who come to ski in the Rocky Mountains every winter. Mexico City ranks as one of Denver’s largest international markets, accounting for more than 70,000 annual passengers across all airlines that serve the market.

“Denver International Airport thanks Aeromexico for its commitment to the Denver market these past five years,” said Denver’s Manager of Aviation, Kim Day. “Mexico is our largest international market by country, and this important relationship continues to stimulate the economy in both Mexico and the Rocky Mountain region.”

Mulinelli, Aeromexico’s regional sales director for the U.S. West Coast added, “It is an honor for Mexico’s largest airline, after having flown 15.5 million passengers in 2013, to celebrate five consecutive years of connecting Denver with Mexico City, offering one free checked bag, in-flight entertainment, open bar, soft drinks and meals or snacks according to the duration of the flight. Aeromexico also offers services like online check-in and Aeromexico Vacations, a brand that features packages that combine flights with hotel stays, car rentals, sightseeing tours, entertainment and more with incredible savings.”

Denver International Airport offers nonstop service to the following cities in Mexico: Mexico City, Cancun, Cozumel, Puerto Vallarta, Los Cabos and Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo operated by airlines such as Frontier, United, Air Tran, Volaris and Aeromexico.

Consul Bello added that, “Aeromexico’s five years of servicing this route demonstrates the importance of the air connectivity between Colorado and Mexico. Nonstop flights from Denver International Airport foster political, commercial, cultural, tourism, academic and family ties.”

In addition, Denver International Airport launched a Facebook contest today to win two roundtrip tickets to Mexico City on Aeromexico, an Aeromexico 737 model airplane or an Aeromexico backpack that fits a laptop. Participants are asked to post a photo of themselves with a related Mexico theme, such as eating Mexican food, visiting a Mexican restaurant or waiving a Mexican flag, on DIA’s Facebook contest page by Feb. 13, 2014 at 11:59 p.m. The photos with the most votes will win the prizes. The most “votes” will win the airline tickets, the photo with the second-most “votes” will win the model airplane, and the third-most “votes” will win the backpack. Winners will be notified by Feb. 27, 2014.
