DENVER – February 1, 2019 – Denver International Airport (DEN) celebrated Aeromexico’s tenth anniversary of service to Denver with a gate event today. DEN Chief Financial Officer Gisela Shanahan presented a proclamation to Aeromexico’s Regional Sales Director Raul Villanueva to commemorate Aeromexico’s dedication to the Denver market. Aeromexico operates seasonal nonstop service from Denver to both Mexico City and Monterrey.
Aeromexico began operating at DEN on Feb. 1, 2009, with nonstop service to Mexico City. In July 2016, Aeromexico became the first carrier in DEN aviation history to announce nonstop service to Monterrey, with flights beginning in December 2016. Over the past 10 years, more than 220,000 passengers have traveled on the carrier at DEN. Many of these passengers are visitors from Mexico who come to ski in the Rocky Mountains.
“Denver International Airport sincerely appreciates the long-term commitment by Aeromexico to serve the Denver market,” said DEN CEO Kim Day. “In today’s dynamic aviation industry and global economy carriers have a lot of options of where they can invest their aircraft, and we would like to thank Aeromexico for providing this critical link over the past decade.”
Mexico City ranks as one of Denver’s largest international markets, with more than 100,000 people traveling between the two cities each year. Nearly 60 percent of the Denver-Mexico City travel takes place in the peak winter and spring months of December through April. Demand between Denver and Monterrey, a market previously unserved before 2016, has also benefitted from nonstop connectivity. Today the number of travelers between Denver and Monterrey is nearly 40 percent higher than three years ago.
“It is a pleasure for Aeromexico to celebrate this 10th anniversary that reflects our commitment to propel touristic and cultural ties between the United States and Mexico. Since our JCA with Delta Air Lines we have been striving to reach that goal by offering a complete flight network between both countries. Particularly Denver is a destination where tourism and culture merge and bring a plethora of activities for all travelers. Thus, this route has been helping us to reach that goal and we are certain that it will keep offering the best to all our passengers,” added Paul Verhagen, Aeromexico’s SVP International Sales.
Mexico ranks as Denver’s largest international market by country, accounting for nearly 25 percent of Denver’s total international travel. The Consulate General of Mexico first established a presence in Denver in 1893 and is the longest serving Consulate Office in Colorado.
“The development of nations is greater when they establish relations with each other,” said Consul General of Mexico Berenice Rendón. “Through the Mexico-Denver flight, Aeromexico created a bridge that has fostered understanding between our countries by boosting contacts between our societies, promoting the knowledge of our cultures, languages and traditions, maintaining the links between families and facilitating commercial relations.”
