Denver International Airport Canine Airport Therapy Squad to Participate in Annual Furry Scurry

Home

Picture of a member of the DEN CATS team.DENVER – May 6, 2016 – Members of the Denver International Airport (DEN) Canine Airport Therapy Squad (CATS) will participate in the annual Dumb Friends League “Furry Scurry” fundraising walk on Saturday, May 7.

The 2-mile walk around Denver’s Washington Park raises money for the Dumb Friends League, which cares for more than 20,000 homeless pets each year. The event helps the organization pay for medical care for sick or injured animals, behavior training that allows pets to be adopted more quickly and supports investigations of animal neglect or mistreatment.

The airport launched its popular CATS therapy dog program in October 2015. The program brings certified therapy dogs and their volunteer handlers to the airport to surprise and delight passengers. The program currently features 27 dogs and their owners. A dozen of the CATS teams – wearing their signature Spyder Active Sports blue plaid uniforms – will participate in this year’s Furry Scurry and provide information about the CATS program at a booth at the event in Washington Park. Each of the handlers also will hand out “trading cards” featuring their K-9 companion.

“Our CATS have quickly become a passenger favorite at Denver International Airport,” airport CEO Kim Day said. “Some of our therapy dogs were at one point in an animal shelter or otherwise rescued, so we are excited to show off our furry ambassadors. This event will help showcase our growing program and hopefully recruit more dog owners to certify their K-9 companions to help people relax, feel comfort or just experience a happy moment at the airport.”
