DENVER – Nov. 12, 2019 – Today Norwegian Air announced new nonstop flights between Denver and Rome, Italy (FCO), beginning on March 31, 2020. Rome is a brand-new destination to DEN and it will be Denver’s firstever and only nonstop service to Italy.
“These new flights mean new jobs and greater economic opportunities for Denver residents,” Mayor Michael B. Hancock said. “This nonstop connection to Italy further solidifies Denver’s strong position in the global economy as both a business and tourism hub. Lonely Planet just named Denver as one of their top 10 places to visit in 2020.”

Rome currently ranks as Denver’s sixth-largest market in Europe; nearly 40,000 people travel between the Mile High City and the Italian capital each year. New, nonstop service to Rome is particularly exciting as the city ranks as the third-largest unserved market in Europe for DEN, behind only Amsterdam and Dublin.
The new service will initially operate twice weekly and will increase to three times per week in the peak travel period of late April through early October; twice-weekly service will continue through the last departure from DEN on Oct. 22, 2020. The nonstop flight is approximately 11 hours each way and will operate using a twoclass 344-seat Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, the same aircraft the airline uses to operate routes to LondonGatwick and Paris from DEN.
“The addition of Rome to Denver’s growing portfolio of nonstop international destination is tremendous news,” said DEN CEO Kim Day. “We are confident demand for travel between Denver and Rome will grow significantly as a result of this new service and know that travelers from the Rocky Mountain Region will be eager to take advantage of this nonstop flight and enjoy all that Rome and Italy have to offer.”
“The U.S. is now our largest and most important source market and we will continue to invest in expanding our network to offer more nonstop service to highly sought-after European destinations,” said Norwegian Senior Vice President of Commercial Matthew Wood. “As we know we’re becoming a beloved brand in America, we want to consistently strive to provide the best quality of service coupled with unbeatable fares. Rome is a great addition to our growing presence in Denver and we look forward to welcoming new and existing travelers onboard next summer.”
With this route, Norwegian now serves more European destinations nonstop than any other carrier at DEN. In addition to their London-Gatwick service, Norwegian is the sole carrier to two international markets from DEN, Paris and Rome.
Norwegian has continued to invest in the Denver market since inaugurating service at DEN in September 2017. During the summer of 2018, the carrier operated five weekly flights to two destinations. During the summer of 2020, Norwegian will operate 11 weekly flights to three destinations. Over this period, Norwegian has doubled their weekly flights and grown their seat capacity by 120 percent at DEN.
DEN estimates Norwegian’s new service between Denver and Rome will generate $48 million in annual economic impact to Colorado’s economy and 350 new jobs. More than 60 percent of the impact will be generated by new visitors to Colorado, a direct result of the anticipated stimulation of travel demand between Denver and Rome.
With the addition of the flights to FCO, DEN will be served by 23 airlines, including 11 foreign-flag carriers, that provide service to 28 international destinations in 14 countries, and more than 215 total nonstop destinations.
Denver International Airport is one of the busiest airports in the world. DEN is the primary economic engine for the state of Colorado, generating more than $36 billion for the region annually.
