DENVER – Oct. 30, 2019 – Denver International Airport (DEN) is excited to announce that United Airlines will begin offering nonstop service between Denver and Nassau, Bahamas (NAS) beginning March 7, 2020.
“Denver is continuing to expand its international reach to new destinations, and we’re excited that Nassau will be added to that growing list,” Mayor Michael B. Hancock said. “Beginning next March, Denverites will have a brand-new option to access this tropical getaway nonstop.”
The new service will operate once a week year-round, on Saturdays, except for mid-August through late October. The nonstop flight is approximately five hours from DEN to NAS and will operate using a Boeing 737-800 aircraft with 166 seats.
“Nassau has never before been served nonstop from Denver,” said DEN CEO Kim Day. “Not only will this benefit Denver-originating travelers, but United’s new service will be their furthest point west served nonstop from the Caribbean, offering convenient connecting opportunities for West Coast travelers.”
Currently, Denver ranks as the third largest U.S. market without nonstop service to Nassau. About 500 people per week travel between Denver and Nassau. It is anticipated that demand for travel between Denver and Nassau will grow substantially as the result of this new nonstop connection.
The addition of Nassau is the latest in significant international growth by United Airlines in Denver. On Nov. 1, United will expand its Denver-London/Heathrow service to operate year-round. In addition, United added daily service to Frankfurt, Germany, in May 2019. With the inauguration of Nassau, United will provide nonstop flights to 14 international destinations in seven countries from DEN. This is in addition to United’s vast domestic network at Denver of more than 160 nonstop destinations in 45 U.S. states.
“United Airlines is proud to continue offering Denver-area customers the world’s best network of international and domestic routes from Denver,” said Steve Jaquith, United’s vice president of Denver. “Just in time to escape the cold for Spring Break, our new service will connect Denver residents with nonstop access to Nassau and will offer customers traveling from the western U.S. nearly 100 opportunities for easy one-stop connections to the Bahamas.”
With the addition of the flights to Nassau, DEN will be served by 23 airlines, including 11 foreign-flag carriers, that provide service to 27 international destinations in 13 countries, and more than 210 total nonstop destinations.
Denver International Airport is one of the busiest airports in the world. DEN is the primary economic engine for the state of Colorado, generating more than $36 billion for the region annually.
