DEN Begins Installing New Security Cameras at Pikes Peak Lot

Home

DENVER – Jan. 17, 2025 – Denver International Airport (DEN) will begin installing 78 additional high-resolution security cameras in the Pikes Peak Shuttle Lot beginning Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2025. The camera technology provides a variety of capabilities including 360-degree views. The installation is expected to continue through the end of March of 2025. Though the impact is expected to be minimal, the work will result in the closure of various areas of the shuttle lot for the duration of the project.

Security Enhancements

The installation of cameras is part of a larger effort to enhance security across DEN’s parking lots and garages. This year, DEN plans to install more than 200 high-resolution cameras (some are single cameras and others are pods of five cameras). The work at the Pikes Peak lot is part of the larger project that will also include new robust data storage equipment that allows the airport a greater ability to monitor parking facilities and assist law enforcement in auto theft investigations. Meanwhile, DEN continues to expand the use of License Plate Reader (LPR) technology to provide more comprehensive coverage of the entrances and exits to/from parking lots and roadways.

The current work to upgrade security follows the installation of 11 additional HALO cameras in the East and West Economy lots as well as in the Pikes Peak lot in 2023, which brought the total of HALO cameras across these three lots to 15, increasing security surveillance by 75%. Another upgrade from the same period included the installation of new barriers at key parking lot locations to help prevent criminals from leaving parking exit lanes and damaging gate arms.

Closure Areas

Those planning to use the Pikes Peak lot from Jan. 21 through March 31 must avoid parking in areas listed below due to utility work and camera installation. Vehicles found parked in those areas will be relocated to the nearest available parking space outside of the work zone within the Pikes Peak lot. Vehicles currently parked in the impacted areas will only be relocated after 30 days have passed from today’s public notice in accordance with City and County of Denver Department of Aviation policy. Signage will be in place alerting drivers to the installation work and closure areas.

DEN will continuously monitor available parking space and open overflow locations as demand requires. The following rows will be closed for the duration of the project to allow work to continue without interruption:
