April Passenger Traffic Continues to Set Records at Denver International Airport as Busy Summer Season Begins

Home

DENVER – June 14, 2016 – Denver International Airport (DEN) had its busiest April in the airport’s history, with about 4.4 million passengers, and has now seen eight consecutive months of record-setting passenger traffic.

A total of 4,377,597 passengers traveled though DEN in April 2016, an increase of 3.6 percent over the 4,223,515 passengers in April 2015.

“Denver International Airport has entered the busy summer travel season with eight consecutive months of record-setting passenger traffic, led by increases in airline seat capacity and a continued strong demand for travel to and from Denver,” airport CEO Kim Day said. “We also continue to see carriers add new destinations. In April, United Airlines’ began nonstop service to Richmond, Va., a previously unserved destination from DEN, as well as new service to Hartford, Conn – with other carriers adding even more destinations later this month.”

The airport also set a record for the busiest April ever for non-preclearance international flights (flights that depart from Denver or clear customs upon arrival in Denver), with 132,977 passengers, an increase of 4.4 percent over 127,414 passengers in April 2015.

Mail, freight and express cargo operations saw 41,758,566 pounds of cargo in April 2016, a decrease of 8 percent compared to the same month in 2015.
