May 17, 2024, proclaimed by Mayor Johnston as Aer Lingus Inaugural Flight Celebration Day in Denver
DENVER – May 17, 2024 – Today, Aer Lingus touched down in the Mile High City for the first time. The inaugural flight from Dublin Airport (DUB) to Denver International Airport (DEN) arrived carrying a delegation of business, tourism and civic leaders led by Denver Mayor Mike Johnston and DEN CEO Phil Washington. To mark the occasion, Mayor Johnston proclaimed May 17, 2024, as Aer Lingus Inaugural Flight Celebration Day in the City & County of Denver.
“Over this past week, our delegation had the opportunity to strengthen commercial and cultural ties between Denver and Dublin,” said Denver Mayor Mike Johnston. “Our conversations with leaders across a variety of industry sectors in Ireland will directly support tourism and businesses in both cities, and we look forward to seeing the results from this partnership.”
The aircraft remained on the ground for less than two hours before embarking on its first journey from the Mile High City to Dublin. Passengers departing on the inaugural flight from Denver enjoyed a celebratory sendoff with Denver officials as well as representatives from Aer Lingus, Tourism Ireland and the Irish government.
“We thank Aer Lingus for their tremendous investment in the Denver market,” said DEN CEO Phil Washington. “These new nonstop flights to Dublin directly support DEN’s Vision 100 pillar of expanding our global connections and further enhances Denver’s position as a global city.”
In addition to the delegation from Denver, a group of journalists from Ireland traveled on the inaugural flight. They will spend several days in Denver and visiting destinations across Colorado to promote visitation from Ireland to the Centennial State.
Susanne Carberry, Aer Lingus Chief Customer Officer, commented: “We are thrilled to commence nonstop flights from Denver to Dublin Ireland and to be the only European carrier to do so. Aer Lingus also offers convenient connections from Dublin Airport, where passengers can easily connect to top UK and European destinations like London, Paris, Rome, Amsterdam and more. Passengers will experience Aer Lingus’ signature warmth and friendly Irish welcome onboard, in addition to excellent food and drink options, a wide range of in-flight entertainment options and a recently upgraded Wi-Fi system. Travelling back to the U.S., passengers can take advantage of U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s Preclearance program at Dublin Airport, expediting arrival in Denver.”
Aer Lingus becomes the 25th airline to operate at DEN. Flights operate four days per week, Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays onboard an Airbus A330 aircraft. Passengers on this route can take advantage of U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s Preclearance program at Dublin Airport, which allows Denver-bound passengers to clear U.S. immigration and customs in Dublin, expediting their arrival in Denver.
“Thanks to the hard work of Denver mayors, past and present, DEN leadership and the entire airport team as well as the enthusiastic support of the Irish and business communities in Denver, we now have a nonstop flight to one of the most beautiful and exciting countries in Europe,” said Jim Lyons, Honorary Consul of Ireland for Colorado. “The strong historical ties between the Irish and the Rocky Mountain region will now bear new fruit for expanded cultural links and commercial opportunities here in Colorado and in Ireland.”
The new Aer Lingus service to Dublin is estimated to produce over $65 million in annual economic impact to Colorado’s economy and support the creation of more than 400 new jobs across the state, generating over $25 million in additional wages.
