Todd Van Fleet earned his degree in Fine Arts in Illustration from the Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design in 1998, and has since worked in advertising as an Art Director and Photographer. A few years ago he chose to follow his main passion and joined the creative team at Flatirons Community Church in Lafayette, Colo. For the past 10 years Van Fleet has been creating bicycle landscapes and rescuing old cruiser bikes from the corners of barns, sheds and junk yards. He frequently exhibits his work in Colorado and the region. In 2015 Van Fleet did photographic and video work in Uganda, Africa, for Musana Community Development.
“Todd Van Fleet – Bicycle Landscapes,” told the story of how landscape meets vintage bike, or as Van Fleet calls them, “Bikescapes” by featuring some of Colorado’s most beautiful areas such as Aspen, Vail, Great Sand Dunes National Park, Garden of the Gods, Kenosha Pass and Gore Range. The exhibit highlighted the true vibrancy of Colorado’s landscapes that were enhanced by vintage bicycles. Van Fleet is known to strap bikes to his back and hike to far-flung lonely Colorado sites to give each bike a new life and narrative within each scene. Nearly 50 large-scale color saturated photographs decorated the walls at DEN as a bold and whimsical bike chronicle.
