Jason Peters, a dynamic artist with nearly three decades of experience in New York City, was born in Munich, Germany, to expatriates from Nebraska, USA. His artistic journey began organically, shaped by each opportunity and installation, leading him to embrace learning and adaptation as central tenets of his practice.
Peters earned his BFA cum laude from the Maryland Institute College of Art, majoring in Sculpture with a natural progression into large-scale
installations. His commitment to creating impactful works led him to utilize found materials, transforming discarded objects into thought-provoking art that challenges the viewer’s perception. He sharpened his skills in high-end fabrication and architectural design.
His art has been showcased nationally and internationally. Significant milestones include commissioned pieces at the Mattress Factory in Pittsburgh and the Pulitzer Arts Foundation in St. Louis, alongside a defining solo exhibition at the Oklahoma City Museum of Art, Nalata Art Festival in São Paulo and Festival de Luze in Brazil. Jason’s enduring fascination lies in crafting site-specific public works that resonate deeply with their environments. By blending a keen understanding of spatial dynamics with a strong conceptual foundation, he ensures that each piece delivers maximum impact. Whether sourcing materials from waste streams or selecting manufactured elements, the idea always remains at the forefront of his creative process.
Through his innovative installations, Jason Peters invites audiences to engage with art in an immersive, transformative way, transcending traditional boundaries and celebrating the complexities of space and materiality.
This artwork is an installation made up of three and a half gallon buckets. Once joined, these modules form flowing tubes that undulate like waves through space, tracing the movement of time and travel. Colors echo Colorado’s mountains, skies and open horizons, while shifting light from windows and LED illumination transforms the piece from day to night. Its curves invite the eye to wander, mirroring the rhythm of travelers passing through the airport. Bold, dynamic and ever-changing, the sculpture celebrates the spirit of Colorado, creating a memorable and uplifting experience for all who encounter it.
