Temporary Traffic Realignment on Outbound Peña Blvd.

DENVER – Sept. 1, 2017 – Beginning Tues., Sept. 5, Denver International Airport (DEN) will temporarily realign 1 mile of outbound Peña Boulevard through Sat., Sept. 30. The three lanes on outbound Peña Boulevard from Gun Club Road to the RTD commuter rail bridge will move to the south and the speed limit will be reduced to 50 mph.

“The traffic realignment will allow us to replace deteriorating concrete on Peña Boulevard during the daytime, keeping all three lanes open for traffic,” airport Senior Director of Airport Infrastructure Management Mark Adams said. “This will allow us to work longer hours, while providing a safe perimeter for the workers and safe traffic flow for drivers.”

In addition, single and double-lane closures on both inbound and outbound Peña Boulevard will continue, Sundays through Thursdays along approximately six miles of Peña Boulevard between E-470 and the Jeppesen Terminal. The inbound Peña Boulevard work takes place from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m., while work on outbound Peña Boulevard takes place from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m., each week. The speed limit is reduced to 45 mph in the overnight construction zones and vehicle passing is not allowed within the construction zone.

Passengers are encouraged to plan ahead and allow extra time to reach the airport during the work hours. The $2.6 million project is part of DEN’s annual pavement rehabilitation program. Flatiron is the contractor of the project, which is expected to be completed by the end of November.
