World's Fastest Airport Wi-Fi

  • In 2017, independent testing by the internet speed company Ookla found that DEN's free Wi-Fi is the fastest among any airport in the world!
  • DEN has invested more than $3 million since 2014 adding new Wi-Fi infrastruture throughout the terminal, concourses and other areas of the airport
  • Passengers can expect a reliable, free Wi-Fi signal that provides blazing speeds up to 150 Mbps - or even faster! 

Leading Airfield Technology

  • In 2013, DEN deployed the state-of-the-art Saab Sensis Aerobahn Surface Management System that provides airport operations managers with real-time information about aircraft deicing operations
  • DEN also has one of the most comprehensive deicing fluid collection and recycling systems in the world, with an average collection rate of 69 percent of all fluid applied to aircraft in a typical winter season
  • By capturing and recycling deicing fluid, DEN saves approximately $2 million per year compared to the cost of processing the fluid as wastewater.
  • In 2015, the airport installed a new network of advanced sensors in runway 17L/35R
    • At 12,000 feet long and 150 feet wide, runway 17L-35R is one of DEN's four north-south runways and is located on the east airfield
    • The advanced sensor system builds upon an existing network of pavement sensors and will allow DEN to monitor the concentration of chemical deicing agents applied during winter storms to better calculate and manage the freezing point of the surface and the amount of deicing material needed

NextGen

  • Since 2010, DEN has worked closely with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Jeppesen, the major airlines and Rocky Mountain and Centennial Airports to implement NextGen, which is an umbrella term for the FAA’s ongoing, wide-ranging transformation of the National Airspace System. At the most basic level, NextGen represents an evolution from a ground-based system of air traffic control to a satellite-based system of air traffic management.
  • In 2013, DEN was the first commercial airport to design a truly comprehensive plan of Area Navigation (RNAV) from the beginning that allows aircraft to fly more predictable and smoother approaches into Denver that reduce fuel consumption and residential noise.
  • Denver also implemented comprehensive Required Navigation Performance (RNP) procedures. RNP is an advanced form of aircraft navigation that includes the ability of aircraft to automatically monitor and alert pilots about the accuracy of satellite-based routes. This onboard monitoring and alerting capability enhances a pilot’s situational awareness and reduces the reliance on air traffic control intervention.
  • In 2015, DEN was the first airport in the world to implement cutting-edge new aircraft arrival procedures that will balance traffic more evenly across the airport's six runways, saving airlines money in fuel costs, reducing the environmental footprint of aircraft operations and creating one of the most efficient airports in the world
  • The airport continues to work with airport stakeholders toward even more advanced procedures that are expected to save equipped aircraft up to 30 nautical miles per approach during inclement weather, resulting in even greater cost savings to the airlines due to reduced fuel consumption.
