TRAVEL UPDATE: Jackson Gap & 75th Ave. Detours

The existing off-ramp from inbound Peña Blvd. to Jackson Gap is closed for construction. While a temporary off-ramp is available, construction activity may cause travel impacts. Drivers on Jackson Gap will not be able to travel westbound on E 75th Ave. to the Pikes Peak shuttle lot. Detours are in place.

WAYFINDING: Changes to A-Bridge/ Ansbacher Hall

A-Bridge and Ansbacher Hall will be closed for overnight construction activities from 6 p.m. to 4 a.m., Monday through Thursday nights, through the opening of the East Checkpoint in Q3 2025. During closures, all travelers must use concourse trains to journey to and from the Terminal.

What We Offer 

The City and County of Denver offers a competitive salary commensurate with education and experience. The starting hourly base pay range (not including differential pay) for this position is $41-45/hour, based on experience and education. Plus, we pay extra for Shift Differential Pay on Swing and Graveyard shifts. We pay 7% extra pay on top of base pay for Swing shifts, and 12% extra pay on top of base pay for Graveyard shifts. (Starting Pay Rates with Shift differential included: Swing $43.87-48.15/hour and Graveyard $45.92-50.40/hour). *Please note: We only have GRAVEYARD shift open at the moment.

Schedule: This position works 4 days a week, 10 hours a day.  Day Shift (530am-330pm), Swing shift (1pm-11pm) or graveyard shift (830pm to 630am). Shifts are either Sunday to Wednesday, or Wednesday to Saturday. Optional overtime (plenty available if you so choose!). All employees start training on day shift (530am-330pm for two months and then swing shift for two months. After 4-6 month training period, you will be assigned your normal shift. The opening we have is for GRAVEYARD shift. Shift bids every June, based on seniority.

May be required to address emergent needs, respond to after- hour calls or emergency calls outside of normal scheduled or business hours

What You’ll Do

Responsibilities include:

  • Oversee the operation, maintenance, and repair of Central Utility Plants heating/cooling hydronic network equipment.  2500ton chillers, 20mbth boilers, cooling towers, heat exchangers, pumps, AHU’s, VFD’s, water treatment, and BAS Operations

  • Provides technical guidance to Stationary Engineers, maintains, troubleshoots and repairs facilities mechanical components, electrical equipment and systems in accordance with SOPs (standard operating procedures), best practice, internal requirements, manufacturer's specifications and safety policies.

  • Manage and coordinate the scheduling of preventive maintenance tasks & corrective maintenance repairs to minimize downtime. Provides work instruction and assists employees with difficult and/or unusual assignments; Assigns and distributes work, reviews work for accuracy and completeness.

  • Responds to emergency situations involving stationary equipment such as power outages or system failures. Coordinates with other departments and emergency services as needed during crisis. Develops and implements emergency procedures and contingency plans.

  • Works with external vendors and contractors for specialized repairs equipment upgrades or inspections. Coordinates the scheduling of maintenance and repairs to minimize disruption to facility operations.

  • Monitors and adjust system controls to optimize energy efficiency and ensure compliance with local state and federal regulations related to equipment operations and maintenance.

  • Conducts regular safety inspections and ensures that all safety protocols are followed, maintains records of safety inspections incident reports and safety training.

  • Manage the inventory of spare parts tools and supplies needed for equipment maintenance and repair.

  • Adheres to additional duties as assigned.

Our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics:

  • Possess a Stationary Engineer License

  • Experience in a Central Utility Plant consisting of Boilers, Chillers, Cooling Towers, Pumps, and all other affiliated hydronic equipment

  • Skilled in maintaining Central Utility Plant equipment and operating building Automation Systems (BAS)

  • Five (5) or more years of boiler experience (maintenance, repair, and operation)

  • Three (3) or more years of chiller experience (maintenance, repair, and operation)

  • Skilled experience with pump and valve rebuilds and motor alignment experience

  • Lead or Supervisory experience is a plus

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment; Team oriented; Reliable work ethic; Ability to work under pressure; Strong Customer Service and Communication skills

  • Capable of working in confined spaces and at elevated heights on high platforms

  • Knowledge of principles and methods for operating industrial equipment such as boilers, chillers, cooling towers, heat exchangers, and pumps.

  • Experience in understanding and using P&ID blueprints, models, maps, and schematics

  • Knowledge of electrical equipment (VFD), components, instruments, including installation, testing, uses, repair, and maintenance

  • Technical Competence and Technical Problem Solving – Troubleshoots, diagnoses, analyzes, and identifies systems malfunctions to determine the source and cause of the problem; Knowledge of mechanical engineering concepts, principles, and practices, and of equipment, tools, mechanical devices, and their uses to produce hydronic heating and cooling

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate

  • Experience Requirement: Four (4) years of experience in building operations, engineering and equipment and systems maintenance. One (1) year of building operations experience must include experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS)

  • Education/Experience Equivalency: A combination of appropriate education and experience may be substituted for the minimum education and experience requirements

  • This job requires driving. Requires a valid unrestricted Driver's license at the time of application

  • This job requires a valid Stationary Engineer License required in trades specialty issued by the City and County of Denver and be in possession of a valid Universal EPA Refrigeration Certificate

  • Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment

FBI Background Check: FBI criminal background check is required for all positions at Denver International Airport (DEN). Employees are also required to report any felony convictions and/or moving violations to maintain this clearance and be eligible for continued employment. By position, a pre-employment physical/drug test may be required.
