What We Offer
The City and County of Denver offers a competitive salary commensurate with education and experience. The starting hourly base pay range (not including differential pay) for this position is $37.00-41.00/hour, based on experience and education. Plus, we pay extra for Shift Differential Pay on Swing and Graveyard shifts. We pay 7% extra pay on top of base pay for Swing shifts, and 12% extra pay on top of base pay for Graveyard shifts. (Starting Pay Rates with Shift differential included: Swing $39.59-43.87/hour and Graveyard $41.44-45.92/hour). *Please note: We only have graveyard shift open at the moment.

Schedule: This position works 4 days a week, 10 hours a day. Day Shift (6am to 4pm), Swing shift (11am to 9pm) or graveyard shift (830pm to 630am). Shifts are either Sunday to Wednesday, or Wednesday to Saturday. Optional overtime (plenty available if you so choose!). All employees start training on day shift (6am to 4pm) for two months and then swing shift for two months. After 4-6 month training period, you will be assigned your normal shift. We primarily have graveyard shifts available. Shift bids every June, based on seniority.
What You’ll Do

Responsibilities include:
Maintains, operates, and repairs building and facility equipment related to the heating and cooling hydronic networks, control systems, which includes mechanical components such as chillers, boilers, pumps, heat exchangers and cooling towers
Performs routine and non-routine preventative maintenance based on operating procedures and regularly scheduled maintenance activities of equipment, and regularly inspects facilities, buildings, and grounds for unsafe or malfunctioning systems and conditions
Assist other trades personnel in the maintenance and repair of building and facility infrastructure and equipment, which includes the installation and modification of equipment
Plans and leads the maintenance and installation of major building and facility equipment repairs and related activities within a variety of specific trades areas, which includes the evaluation and recommendation of service upgrades
Responds to building and facility tenant complaints regarding safety issues and environmental control conditions, which includes following up on work orders, and prioritizing service calls
Assists in coordinating maintenance efforts with outside contractors and technicians regarding contracted service agreements. Provides input to supervisors and managers responsible for planning and controlling annual budgets
Orders parts and supplies as required and maintains stock and inventory control. Maintains records and prepares reports, which includes estimating materials, labor, and equipment costs
May be required to be on-call to address emergent needs, respond to after- hour calls or emergency calls outside of normal scheduled or business hours. Responsible for the energy management systems that overlay Central Utility Plant equipment controls, and equipment maintenance schedules
Troubleshooting and maintaining BACnet/LON networks and Metasys BAS
About You
Our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics:
Possess a Stationary Engineer License (or ability to obtain this certification within 6 months of hire) is required
Experience in a Central Utility Plant maintenance; Experience in operating Building Automation Systems (BAS)
Minimum of three (3) years of boiler experience (maintenance, repair, and operation)
Minimum of one (1) year of chiller experience (maintenance, repair, and operation)
Pump and valve rebuilds and motor alignment experience helpful
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment; Team oriented; Reliable work ethic; Ability to work under pressure; Strong Customer Service and Communication skills
Knowledge of principles and methods for operating industrial equipment such as boilers, chillers, cooling towers, heat exchangers, and pumps
Experience in understanding and using P&ID blueprints, models, maps, and schematics
Knowledge of electrical equipment (VFD), components, instruments, including installation, testing, uses, repair, and maintenance
Technical Competence and Technical Problem Solving – Troubleshoots, diagnoses, analyzes, and identifies systems malfunctions to determine the source and cause of the problem; Knowledge of mechanical engineering concepts, principles, and practices, and of equipment, tools, mechanical devices, and their uses to produce hydronic heating and cooling
Required Minimum Qualifications
Education: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate
Experience: Three (3) years of experience in building operations, engineering and equipment and systems maintenance
Education/Experience Equivalency: A combination of appropriate education and experience may be substituted for the minimum education and experience requirements
Licensures/Certification(s): This job requires driving. Requires a valid Driver's license at the time of application
This job requires either a valid Stationary Engineer License or equivalency as required in trades specialty issued by the City and County of Denver, or a valid Stationary Engineer license issued by the State of Colorado within 6 months of hire
Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment
Equivalency: A combination of appropriate education and experience may be substituted for the minimum education and experience requirements
Stationary Engineer certificate requirements:
Minimum Experience Required to Apply: Four (4) years in stationary engineering work consisting of the following:
Three (3) years operating high-pressure steam boilers producing over 10 hp and steam pressure over 15 p.s.i. or water heating boilers when the water temperature exceeds 250 degrees F in the system
One (1) year operating refrigeration equipment requiring an operator per Chapter 1, Denver Building Code.
Notarized letter(s) from past employers to verify that you have the above required experience to apply
