Denver International Airport is currently seeking a Fleet Technician Intern. As part of our Fleet Maintenance Team, you will train under a mentor for 6-12 months to help maintain and repair vehicles and equipment to include: light-duty cars and pickups, medium/heavy-duty trucks, police motorcycles, Airport Rescue Fire Fighting (ARFF) equipment, and one of the largest and most technically advanced airport snow removal fleets in North America. This will include performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting/diagnosis and repair of these state-of-the-art diesel, gasoline, and alternative powered vehicle and equipment assets. Tools, uniforms, work boots, and PPE will be provided. Upon successful completion of the trades/vocational program in conjunction with 6-12 months in the Fleet Internship, interns may be offered direct conversion to a full time, benefited position.
As a Feet Technician Intern you will get to experience:
Conduct routine and annual inspections and performs preventive maintenance on all vehicles
Inspect equipment for proper fluid levels, adds fluid as necessary, and replaces filters
Inspect, diagnose, disassemble, remove, clean, and replace defective parts/systems, and adjust to specified performance standards for assigned fleet vehicles
Repair mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems and apparatus
Repair and replace braking systems including anti-lock braking systems (ABS) and traction control systems
Evaluate and repair computerized engine controls including emissions and safety systems.
Respond to field service calls and perform preventive maintenance on equipment in shop or in field locations
Participate in developmental Technician training
Observe and follow all common shop safety standards
Perform other related duties as required
The Fleet Department Intern schedule will be determined on an individual basis but will be flexible to accommodate class schedules (5 to 10-hour shifts, not to exceed 60 hours over a two week pay period [e.g. average 30 hours per week]). The Fleet Management Shop is open 7 days a week from 6:00am- 2:30am the following day.
Our ideal candidate will have/be:
Maintain good academic standing and attendance at a vocational or trades institution
Anticipated completion of a certificate, licensure, diploma or degree within the next 12 months, or recent completion of an accredited program within the past 6 months
Previous work experience is advantageous
Strong understanding of general shop and vehicle bay safety protocols
Exposure or Proficiency in using hand tools and power tools
Enthusiasm for learning, positive, can-do attitude and solution orientated approach to work

Education Requirement: Current enrollment in a trades or vocational accredited program leading to a certificate, licensure, or associate degree, or a recent graduate (within 1 year of completion of a specified program). The field is specific to the departmental and/or work assignment
Experience: None
Education/Experience Equivalency: No substitution of experience for education is permitted
License/Certifications: This position requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application. Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment

FBI Background Check: FBI criminal background check is required for all positions at Denver International Airport (DEN). Employees are also required to report any felony convictions and/or moving violations to maintain this clearance and be eligible for continued employment. By position, a pre-employment physical/drug test may be required.
Snow / Emergency Duties: Denver International Airport is a 24/7/365 team operation. If weather conditions warrant or an emergency crisis occurs, all DEN employees can be required to work extended hours and/or shifts.
