Update from DEN: Monday morning passengers at DEN experienced significant lines across all security screening checkpoints resulting in lengthy wait times to get through security.

We’ve been in contact with local and national TSA leadership to understand what resources and staffing they had in place this morning, how the lanes were being operated, what advance planning took place, traffic projections, equipment issues and more. At the same time, we are reviewing our own operation regarding how we manage the lines outside the checkpoint. TSA and DEN continue to work together in partnership to address the challenges we are having so that we can best accommodate the numbers of passengers traveling through DEN, particularly at peak times. We are encouraged by the performance of the equipment in the new West Security Checkpoint and the vast majority of times, wait times are below 10 minutes. However, we know there was a problem during peak time on the morning of Feb. 26 and we are going to do everything we can possibly do, working with TSA and our airlines, to fix this situation. Our passengers deserve an amazing, efficient and positive travel experience and we are committed to providing just that.

What We Offer

Denver International Airport emerging talent positions are required to attend all sessions of professional development within the cohort model. You will be onboarded with a cohort of peers to begin to help you develop your network across the aviation industry.

As a part of the Airport Planning Team, you will:

Work with departments from around the airport, and the FAA, to update our Airport Layout Plan (ALP), Master Plan, design aircraft gates, conduct 7460 airspace analyses, and prepare exhibits, maps, and analysis materials for presentations before stakeholder groups. You will also get to learn and improve skills in planning software (Autodesk Civil3D, AviPlan, and ArcGIS). There is potential to be assigned other duties or to other projects as needed.

As an intern you will get to experience:

  • Working in CAD software to analyze problems and recommend solutions
  • Interpreting FAA Advisory Circulars and applying them to airport planning
  • Participating in multi-disciplinary teams to implement strategic objectives
  • Updating the Airport Master Plan
  • Collaborating with the GIS team to update the Airport Layout Plan
  • See other aspects of a large hub airport via the intern cohort and job shadowing

About You

Our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics:

  • Pursuing studies in Aviation or Airport Management, Aeronautics, Civil engineering, Community Planning and Development or other similar fields of study
  • A strong interest in Airport planning and a desire to learn how the Denver International Airport runs
  • Technical skills – experience using Microsoft Office products (Power BI, CAD software preferred)
  • Exposure or familiarity with GIS concepts and/or software
  • Interest or Ability to interpret data and do basic analytics to draw conclusions
  • Effective Interpersonal and Communications Skills: Written and oral skills plus the ability to manage conflict and exhibit teamwork, empathy, listening, and a positive attitude.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education Requirement:  Current enrollment in an accredited college program leading to a certificate, licensure, associates, bachelor’s, or higher degree in, or a recent graduate (completed specified program within 1 year of completion). 
  • Experience: None 
  • Education and Experience Equivalency: No substitution of experience for education is permitted.

Location

The City and County of Denver supports a hybrid workplace model with a required min 3 days in office. Employees work where needed to support business, at the Denver International Airport. We do not offer housing or relocation assistance for this position.

Internship Duration and Hours:

This is a 10-week college internship with a completion date of August 9, 2024, with a max of 39 hours a week.

FBI criminal background check is required for all positions at Denver International Airport (DEN).
