Update from DEN: Monday morning passengers at DEN experienced significant lines across all security screening checkpoints resulting in lengthy wait times to get through security.
We’ve been in contact with local and national TSA leadership to understand what resources and staffing they had in place this morning, how the lanes were being operated, what advance planning took place, traffic projections, equipment issues and more. At the same time, we are reviewing our own operation regarding how we manage the lines outside the checkpoint. TSA and DEN continue to work together in partnership to address the challenges we are having so that we can best accommodate the numbers of passengers traveling through DEN, particularly at peak times. We are encouraged by the performance of the equipment in the new West Security Checkpoint and the vast majority of times, wait times are below 10 minutes. However, we know there was a problem during peak time on the morning of Feb. 26 and we are going to do everything we can possibly do, working with TSA and our airlines, to fix this situation. The department creates exhibitions and events that are supportive of DEN’s brand and create a sense of place. What You’ll Do
In this internship you will learn what it takes to coordinate the exhibitions and program events at DEN. You will help with researching potential exhibits, installing exhibits, maintaining of exhibits, tearing-down exhibits, creating presentations, and planning and hosting public events. This internship will focus on the exhibitions program at DEN emphasizing curatorial work and exhibition installations, with additional opportunities to work alongside the Public Art and Events programs. Opportunities in Public Art include shadowing Public Art Program Manager on major projects and art maintenance. Experience in events includes helping plan and execute large public programs and pop-up events for travelers and staff.
Curatorial work in exhibitions may include researching a specific topic, gathering names of artists and organizations, future exhibition planning, drafting, and reviewing exhibition text, and light graphic design work. Exhibition installation work may include laying out displays, hands-on work installing art and archival objects, installation scheduling, and object tracking.
As an intern you will get to experience:
Curating an exhibition from start to finish including research, writing, engaging with artists and community organizations, and planning for installation
Installing exhibitions in a variety of spaces to gather hands-on art handling and display planning experience
Creating educational programs to coincide with exhibitions for travelers and staff including tours and art making activities
Planning, organizing, and executing events that surprise and delight passengers at DEN
Opportunities to learn more about the unique Public Art program at DEN through shadowing experience on major public art projects and maintenance
What You’ll Bring
Our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics:
Strong writing skills with an interest in storytelling and narrative text for public exhibitions
Experience or interest in art handling and exhibition preparation
Outgoing and positive attitude to assist with organizing and executing public facing events
Creativity and detail orientation
High level of organizational skills
Ability to manage several projects concurrently
Required Minimum Qualifications
Education: Current enrollment in an accredited college program leading to a certificate, licensure, associates, bachelor’s, or higher degree in art history, studio art, design, museum studies, architecture, art administration or another related field, or a recent graduate (completed specified program within 1 year of completion)
Education and Experience Equivalency: No substitution of experience for education is permitted

The City and County of Denver supports a hybrid workplace model with a required minimum of three days in office. Employees work where needed to support business, at the Denver International Airport. Occasionally additional days in office are needed for exhibition installations and events, which may sometimes occur in the evening or on weekends. We do not offer housing or relocation assistance for this position.
Internship Duration and Hours
This is a 1-year college internship with a completion date of Friday, May 2nd, 2025, with a maximum of 30 hours per week.
FBI Background Check
FBI criminal background check is required for all positions at Denver International Airport (DEN). Employees are also required to report any felony convictions and/or moving violations to maintain this clearance and be eligible for continued employment. By position, a pre-employment physical/drug test may be required.
