Update from DEN: Monday morning passengers at DEN experienced significant lines across all security screening checkpoints resulting in lengthy wait times to get through security.

We’ve been in contact with local and national TSA leadership to understand what resources and staffing they had in place this morning, how the lanes were being operated, what advance planning took place, traffic projections, equipment issues and more. At the same time, we are reviewing our own operation regarding how we manage the lines outside the checkpoint. TSA and DEN continue to work together in partnership to address the challenges we are having so that we can best accommodate the numbers of passengers traveling through DEN, particularly at peak times. We are encouraged by the performance of the equipment in the new West Security Checkpoint and the vast majority of times, wait times are below 10 minutes. However, we know there was a problem during peak time on the morning of Feb. 26 and we are going to do everything we can possibly do, working with TSA and our airlines, to fix this situation. Our passengers deserve an amazing, efficient and positive travel experience and we are committed to providing just that.

What You’ll Do

This role presents an opportunity for a detail-oriented individual eager to learn and contribute to improvements at DEN. This position specifically promotes the Everyday Innovation Program, which fosters a culture of improvement throughout the entire enterprise. The Everyday Innovation program holds significant importance, by supporting greater efficiency and incremental improvements, facilitates connections among like-minded employees and advances innovative mindsets, contributing to a culture of ongoing improvement and creativity.

With the Continuous Improvement Team, you will experience:

  • Supporting improvement initiatives at DEN

  • Participating in professional development opportunities

  • Cultivating strong and trustworthy relationships with employees, stakeholders, and customers

  • Integrating Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion principles into process improvement endeavors

  • Promoting employee engagement and actively participating in the Innovate DEN program

  • Aiding instructors and facilitators in delivering training workshops on innovation and improvement methods, tools, and techniques

  • Developing and disseminating communications for improvement initiatives. Summarize accomplishments and share insights through a concluding presentation at the end of the internship

  • Planning and execution of innovation events including overseeing logistics, equipment, catering, and presenter coordination

  • Special projects and initiatives that support Continuous Improvement and Culture & Strategy objectives

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Current enrollment in an accredited college program leading to a certificate, licensure, associates, bachelor’s, or higher degree in business administration, construction management, organizational learning and development, education, or another related field, or a recent graduate (completed specified program within 1 year of completion)

  • Experience: None

  • Education and Experience Equivalency: No substitution of experience for education is permitted

Location

The City and County of Denver supports a hybrid workplace model. Employees work where needed, at a job site several days a week and off-site as needed. 

Internship Duration and Hours

This is a 6-month college internship with a completion date of December 31st, 2024, with a max of 35 hours per week.

FBI Background Check

FBI criminal background check is required for all positions at Denver International Airport (DEN). Employees are also required to report any felony convictions and/or moving violations to maintain this clearance and be eligible for continued employment. By position, a pre-employment physical/drug test may be required.
