Denver International Airport Concourse Expansion Project

NOTICE OF FINAL ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT (EA) AND FINDING OF NO SIGNIFICANT IMPACT

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has approved a Final EA and a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for the Denver International Airport (DEN) Concourse Expansion Project in Denver, Colorado. The purpose of this notice is to announce the availability of the documents for review.

The Proposed Action would expand Concourses A, B and C to add up to 33 new gates and replace up to eight apron loading gates with mainline gates as follows and detailed in the EA:

  • Concourse A West Expansion of up to 13 new gates and 15 new/renovated holdrooms with 109,000 square yards of new apron pavement

  • Concourse B West Expansion of up to four new gates and six new/renovated holdrooms with 19,000 square yards of new apron pavement

  • Concourse B East Expansion replaces up to eight existing, apron loading gates to mainline gates and ten new/renovated holdrooms with 23,000 square yards of new apron pavement

  • Concourse C East Expansion of up to 16 new gates and 17 new/renovated holdrooms with 66,740 square yards of new apron pavement

  • Installation of electric preconditioned air units, 400 Hertz ground power units and fuel hydrant systems for all new/relocated gates

  • Development of staging areas for construction purposes

The Final EA and FONSI found that the project is consistent with existing environmental policies and objectives as set forth in the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 and will not significantly affect the quality of the human environment. No thresholds of significance are expected to be exceeded with the Proposed Action. Most impacts would be minimal and would occur during construction.  Potential impacts to wildlife will be minimal. DEN will mitigate potential impacts to black tailed prairie dog with the mitigation guidance issued by Colorado Parks and Wildlife, conduct surveys to ensure that western burrowing owl are not present before construction, and prevent impacts to the Black-footed ferret through the Memorandum of Agreement that DEN operates under with the US Forest Service.

In accordance with current Council on Environmental Quality regulations, copies of the FONSI and Final EA will be available for review at the following location during regular business hours through June 13, 2018: Green Valley Ranch Library at 4856 N. Andes Ct., Denver, CO 80249 and online at the link below:
