Colorado Art Ranch 33 Ideas!
March - August 2010
Ansbacher Hall
(walkway between Jeppesen Terminal and A Gates
security screening)

Denver International Airport and Colorado Art Ranch present 33 IDEAS!,
an exhibit showcasing innovative artists and writers who have investigated
land and social issues in a variety of mediums. With
an artistic and literary exploration of contemporary topics, this exhibit is
intended to create dialogue about a variety of issues and inspire new ways
of thinking.
This exhibit showcases visual and literary artists associated with Colorado
Art Ranch. They have been presenters, artists in residence, or have been involved
in one or more Artposia (public interdisciplinary symposia). They were selected
to represent Colorado Art Ranch’s philosophy for this exhibit. The artists
use their passion, skills, knowledge, and talent to ask questions and react
to the world around them. The work, in turn, inspires us to ask questions and
to view the world from different perspectives.
Visit Colorado Art Ranch at www.coloradoartranch.org and
watch for more information on Facebook and Twitter to find out what people
are talking about, and how they creatively express their ideas.

Create Change Youth Murals
May 20 – September 20, 2010
A Gates Mezzanine Gallery

Create Change is a collaboration between YouthBiz, 2Kool, West High Mural Club, ICOSA magazine, and Ashoka Change Your City. The young artists behind the murals acknowledge that in the midst of the very real challenges of war, poverty, and environmental degradation, we still have the power to create healthy and thriving communities. The Create Change murals juxtapose images of apathetic and destructive behaviors with the vitality, creativity, and beauty of a city with a solid health care system, sustainable energy, a pioneering education system, and a thriving art scene.
See a video documentary of the murals: Create Change or visit the 2kool Web site.

SHOWS PROMISE: University of Colorado at Boulder
July – November 2010
Jeppessen Terminal, Level 6, East Side

Currently featured in the Shows Promise gallery is the work of Master of Fine Arts candidate
Xi Zhang. After studying painting at the Beijing Institute of Art and Design, he moved to the United States in 2004. In 2008, he completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree program at Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design. That same year, Kyle MacMillan of the Denver Post honored Zhang with Emerging Artist of the Year saying, “This young Chinese artist already possesses an integrated, well-developed and surprisingly mature artistic vision, which plays itself out with impressive creativity.”
Zhang's work explores topics of identity, globalization, and pop culture. Concerned with the collective human experience, he comments on the phenomenon of instantaneous worldwide communication. Employing both abstraction and representation, while layering colors, textures, and figures, Zhang creates a full experience for the viewer. Borrowing imagery from Google, Zhang also appropriates color from video games, computer-generated imagery, and advertisements – elements he calls “21st century DNA.”
