Beloian searches second hand stores for discarded fabrics that have reached the end of their first useful life. Sewing these mismatched patterns side by side, she creates conflict and thus generates a dialogue. Her topiary drawings juxtapose the organic flow of sumi ink with deliberately controlled embroidery. Her intent is to create a harmony among the discord as she merges patterns and materials into a singular, complex personality.
Angela Beloian’s work has been exhibited at museums, galleries and art centers throughout the United States. Locally, her paintings are included in the collection at St. Anthony Medical Campus, and her work was selected in 2010 for an exterior wall at The Denver Center for Performing Arts. Awards include the Painting’s Edge Artist Residency in Idyllwild, CA, grants from the Longmont Council for the Arts and the Scientific Cultural Facilities District, and a purchase award from Art in Public Places, Longmont. Her installation Shapeshift is on view at the Longmont Museum in Longmont, Colorado through the summer.
