"Spirit of the People" tells the story of Native Americans in this region through paintings, photographs, story signs and audio works. The art work begins in Jeppesen Terminal, Level 5, in the International Arrival corridor with visual pieces depicting life in Colorado approximately 7,000 to 10,000 years ago, and continues with the Anasazi people who lived here 1,000 years ago. Historical tribal images and stories proceed through the corridor, culminating in Jeppesen Terminal with paintings and photographs of contemporary American Indians.
The art work continues on Level 6 of Jeppesen Terminal as an audio recording that plays along the pedestrian bridge connecting the terminal to A Gates. The slow-moving walkways allow for a moment of heightened reflection as the traveler gazes out onto the Colorado landscape and mountain ranges. The music adds a cultural context by referencing the history, the land, the people and the spirituality of those who inhabited this region for thousands of years.
